Every year, on 8th March, an International Women’s Day is celebrated all over the world.
This year Miss Granger organized a trip to Women of the World Festival at Southbank. About 60 Fulham Cross girls took part, including fifteen Year 7 students. I was one of the lucky ones to be chosen.
This festival celebrated women and girls and looked at the obstacles that stop them from achieving their potential. The many activities we took part in included talks, singing and dancing. We listened to and met a lot of women who are very successful in their jobs and careers, like Jessy McCabe who is 17 years old and is studying for her A levels in music, history and maths. DJ Nish who is one of the most experienced and talented Asian DJ’s in the United Kingdom, Megan Beech who was the winner of the Poetry Society’s SLAMbassadors National Youth Slam in 2011, and other great speakers. I’ve learned from them that girls should do what they want to do when they are older, they should follow their dreams!
If you want to be a footballer, author or anything else in life then go for it and don’t worry what people think about what you have chosen to do with your life, just do it and believe in yourself! BE EMPOWERED!
