For EMPOWER day last spring term, Miss Woodroofe organised a practical learning experience for Year 8 Fulham Cross Students that was like nothing they had ever done before. A visit to a working Farm!
We came into school an hour early and excitedly filed onto the buses ready for our two hour drive into the west. After some traffic around Oxford, we pulled into the car park of the Cotswold Farm Park and were greeted by their friendly staff.
The girls had a wonderful day, completing a range of activities including: A tractor-pulled tour of the site, a country walk through a sheep-filled field, feeding rare breed goats and sheep on the ‘Farming through time walk’ and – the highlight of the day- handling piglets, lambs, chicks, rabbits and guinea pigs. They also burned off lots of energy in the Adventure playground and bouncing on the ‘bouncy bubble’.
Many of the students had never been to a farm before, or handled animals and it was a pleasure to see them gaining confidence as the day progressed. Rasoul in 8M commented: ‘My favourite part was feeding the goats, although one of them was extra greedy!’
The fresh air and excitement wore us out and we had a calm and relaxed bus journey home with our happy and exhausted students. It was a fantastic day and a really positive experience for the students.
