Year 7 - Interfaith Week

Students in Year 7 got to meet Wilf Merttans, a British storyteller and poet. He has been recently working a Masters degree on how religion can lead us to writing beautiful creative pieces and he shared some of his own personal work with the girls. The metaphors and stories were brilliant and engaging. He then discussed with them the morality of “found poetry” which is poetry in which the author uses words spoken by others that is then transformed into a piece with flow and structure. Wilf explained that an American poet recently did this with a police report about a racially motivated shooting and the girls debated strongly whether this was fair to the family of the deceased. Wilf was so impressed with their contributions he said it might even include some of them in his dissertation!
