On the morning of the 4th March, a large group of year 11 students (and some year 10 students) set off on their way to Euston by public transport to attend the ‘Poetry live!’ event. The first poet was John Agard who entertained everybody with a poem about the kettle as well as some information behind one of the poems in the poetry anthology. The other poets who came were Simon Armitage, Imtiaz Dharker, Daljit Nagra, Gilian Clarke and the poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy. The girls got to socialise with students from other schools who shared an interest in poetry (and passing their GCSE English Literature exams). They were able to ask the poets questions about their work and received exam tips from an examiner. Overall it was an enjoyable and advantageous experience for both the students and teachers.
