There have been a number of studies focusing on the link between homework and achievement However, many of these studies were conducted before the changes to GCSEs and the consequent impact on the curriculum across the year groups. As a result, home learning is more crucial than at any time in the recent past.
At Fulham Cross, homework should be seen as an additional lesson (particularly at GCSE); an opportunity to focus on the elements of the curriculum that do not require direct teacher involvement. For example, it may be an opportunity for exam practice or to deepen the knowledge of the particular topic. Furthermore, it is an opportunity for the students to develop the skills of independence, resilience and time management that are becoming increasingly important in secondary education.
